Event will also kick-off Columbus Community Center’s 40th Anniversary
Salt Lake City, Utah – September 1, 2007. On Tuesday, October 2, 2007, local businesses and individuals will be recognized for the contributions they have made to support the independence of people with disabilities. “Dignity through Work” is a breakfast event that will be held at Little America Hotel from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. The event is presented by the Community Foundation for the Disabled and Columbus Community Center. The event will also be the kick-off for Columbus’ 40th anniversary.
Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. and Mr. Bob Chamberlin, the president of NISH, are the keynote speakers this year. Governor Huntsman has supported various state-led efforts to encourage employment opportunities for people with disabilities. NISH is a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization that advances workplace opportunities for people with disabilities.
Three awards will be given at the event. The Visionary Leadership Award will be given to the parents who founded Columbus Community Center in 1968. The Social Enterprise Award will be given to Intermountain Healthcare Central Laundry, recognizing its entrepreneurial efforts to create job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The Outstanding Business Partner of the Year Award recognizes the United States Army 96th Regional Support Command for its ongoing partnership with the Columbus Grounds Maintenance program.
