Salt Lake City, UT –Columbus Secure Shredding (CSS) wants to raise awareness about issues that seem unrelated at first glance—protecting confidential information and employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities.
Columbus Secure Shredding is offering a free document shredding day on Monday, June 9th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2825 East Cottonwood Parkway (6400 South) in Salt Lake. This special event invites the public to bring up to 100 pounds of their own documents from home to be shredded and to learn about steps that can help protect one's identity. People will be able to drop off and witness their confidential material being shredded and learn more from identity theft experts who will be available.
This special event also will help raise awareness about employment potential of individuals with severe disabilities. CSS is a business unit of Columbus Community Center, a nonprofit organization that provides training and employment services for people with severe disabilities, Columbus opened CSS five years ago as a way to provide a needed business service in the community while creating jobs for people with severe disabilities. CSS is nationally recognized as one of the first nonprofit organizations to start a secure document shredding service and employs 25 people with severe disabilities. CSS is AAA-certified by NAID (National Association of Information Destruction), which means it meets the strictest industry guidelines to ensure that confidential material is destroyed according to Federal regulations and industry standards.
Columbus Community Center is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It is one of the largest and oldest nonprofits in the Salt Lake Area that provides a full spectrum of services for people with disabilities.
